ABOUT THE ROLE
This position is responsible for performing food preparation and production functions; ensuring standards are met in accordance with Ministry of Health LTC Standards, Health Protection and Promotions Act, The Occupational Health & Safety Act and Departmental Policy..
QUALIFICATIONS
• Successful completion of a Chef training or Culinary Management diploma from a vocational or trade school or community college or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum three (3) years experience in a related position of a large institutional or commercial establishment providing a full range of culinary services including experience working with therapeutic menus, scratch cooking and bulk decentralized food service.
• Valid Food Safety Certification ( Food Safety Training).
• Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC).
• Knowledge of and ability to operate institutional and job related food service tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of the Sanitation Code, Health Protection and Promotions Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and MOHLTC guidelines as related to food and nutrition service.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
• Demonstrated basic computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and the ability to receive and respond to emails.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to work within a diverse community and ability to deal empathetically with residents, family members, etc., to contribute to their well-being.
• Ability to work effectively independently or as a part of a team.
• Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs and to withstand long periods of walking, standing and frequent bending and twisting.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required, and to work a variety of shifts.
